My apologies for a lack of posts, my computer died and it took awhile to get a new one.

Have a late secret Santa gift or just don’t have a clue what to give to a family member or a friend?

Give something truly from the heart,  for anyone who likes to read (print) book, writes in a journal or just needs to keep their place in something! Also if they don’t do any of that, you could always make one to be a necklace (justs be sure its long enough to be wrapped round the neck, to look like a choker, or just drape around one’s neck.

I’ve started making  book thongs this year. I had purchased a couple in the past in Waldenbooks

and a friend gave me one as well (sadly it broke I used it so much! I still have yet to repair it)

In my opinion, they are better than those boring ribbons that are bound in journals (and likely not the color(s) you want), and these are much nicer looking than actual bookmarks. They are like jewelry for your book! They also stay in place better than a book mark (which always sseems to fall out) as they are weighted by the beads and charms.

Here’s a few of the ones I’ve made on your left…

The first one is a holiday gift for a friend who Likes penguins

The one in the middle was part of mom’s mother’s day gift, one year.  Mom said its so pretty it should be earrings (I think she was referring to the bottom part)

The Chinese themed one on the right is mine. I need to get a better picture of it as well as, I should take a picture of the journal(s) it should be with, (see the bottom of post.

To make these you need some beads, some charms, as well as chord/string.

I have leather like cord as well as some hemp twine.  Just be sure if you are buying the beads specifically for this project, that you make sure all the beads have the same size hole and the chord fits in the beads!

I’ve seen some book thongs (like the one on right)  where people have made them fully beaded (with small seed beads for the spot where it goes in the book, but that will mess up the spine of the book, as well as the book thong won’t stick in the book as it should.)

I have also thought of making my book thongs long enough to be a wrap around necklace/Choker.

One of My favorite things about book thongs is I don’t think I saw any 2 alike in the store. And when you make them for you they have your personality and likes (color, maybe interest like a Harry Potter themed one) Even when you make a gift for someone, likely it’s not just made for their interests and personality nor does it show yours, with these it does both!

If you are giving it as a gift, I came upon this cute little card one could make

I’m going to have to see if I can make some business cards with that on it (or my own version) to stick with mine.

I sell the book thongs by request, you tell me a color and a theme you want and I’ll see what I have in stock to make it and give you a price on how much it will be. I can also make matching earrings and other things if I have enough of supplies. You can make your requests in the contact form below.

Here are those Journals The Chinese themed bookthong goes with.

Image Transfer

Depending on what you are working with there are 2 ways to do this

The first is if you want to ‘trace’ something into your journal or on a report etc. I learned about this recently.

This one is great for those of you that journal, or might want to make your own picture but can’t quite get it just right so you can use a few different images to put it together to create it

Get some GRAPHITE paper  this can be erased after you have gone over it in the color you want.

make sure when you purchase in a store it says graphite as Carbon will not erase.

Transfer an image to wood, clay etc by using

a printed image, and some baby oil!  as seen here

Inspiration station ~Pop-up recipe (?) book

I’m posting this early as I’m sure it takes a while to plan and prepare. Here’s an idea for a Mothers’ day gift or a shower gift for a mom to be (especially if she will make her own baby food).

You can make it for one recipe throughout the book, or make each page a recipe. Either way this would make a great gift full of love for your mom of her, Yours or everyone in the family’s favorite recipe(s).

Even better, is your daughter getting married? Why not make this for her with the family recipes (especially ones passed down) This makes a lovely gift full of love, for anyone. I love the way they include the ingredients with little mini versions of what you need.

Pen Pal Kits

I’ve been Pen paling (yeah the snail mail way) since summer of 1994. I do still write to a couple of my original pals, as well as have some new ones. This year I thought of the idea of making a pen pal kit for a couple of mine. It’s a thoughtful gift, the box gives them something to lean on as well as store their paling supplies in, if they do not have a desk. Plus You can also (if you’d like) personalize the top of the box with a monogram,  re-paint it or even use a nice tack paper on it especially if like me you use the good Cigar boxes. Sometimes you don’t even need to as some are nice enough looking.

Whatever your decision make sure  you personalize it with some things they like as well as the sort of stationery they normally use (like Notecards, a writing tablet, or printer paper.) Include a pen, some stickers, and other assorted items.

Take a look at what I’ve included in mine.for my Pal Alisa (it was her 2016 holiday gift)

Sorry this cuts short

part ways with your Favorite denim Easier with these clever projects

Have I got some projects for you this year! I cam across this and started to drool.

Instead of getting rid of those old jeans put them away to use for these darling if not daring projects!

What are they, one is a bib, a basket bucket and even a place mat with pocket for napkin and utensils. Let’s not forget the Denim Whale, I wasn’t aware blue whales came from denim! I also like the jeans with the British flag on it

Up the ottoman project to be storage! Use a pail of your liking to store your kids toys or anything that you may need to quick clean when pressed for time when company is coming.

I ‘sew’ want to make those place mats for cookouts!

a ‘never ending’ journal

add multiple journals in one for a ‘never ending journal, use each book for a different subject, month etc, and you can then put it aside when you finish it up to add room.

or even better use a binder (or 2) to add pages. use one for your current journals, and a 2nd one to archive (this way it’s not all together in case you lose it)
