I came across this Betty Boop fabric in a Walmart and my Nana’s Name is Elizabeth but everyone calls her betty and Buys her Betty Boop stuff. When I was little my Nana used to crochet etc a lot but now she’s in her 90s! and the arthritis won’t let her. Being this year we had to put her in a home (she wanted it, after she fell.) at the time they had her in a wheel chair, then I heard she was using her walker again. So I thought I’d make a small bag she can leave on either to put whatever she wanted in. (Although when I went she leaves her purse on the walker way too obvious for my taste!)
I may use the other one as a lounge chair bag to put a small paperback book in chapstick a couple dollars etc or I may see if I have something else more me to use.(Halloween or something summery like tyedye)
Every summer I get a vacation away from my family thanks to my Aunt. When she goes away I get to house sit and take care of her cats. One problem…. when I sit outside on the lawn chair… the arm rest is metal, so I end up getting burned.
Now you know the inspiration for this project, and I wish there were a way that i could record the whole process for you, but it took me a few nights in total to work on this as I do everything ALL by hand, no sewing machine.
Thread(s) in the color of your fabric
Sheet of flat ‘stuffing’
Ribbon, string but pref. the tie from your old running pants.
(bra) hooks, buttons, or velcro
I can’t tell you what size piece of fabric I used, I just grabbed the one you see below, put some of it over the arm of my lawn chair (the arm is wider then my aunt’s chair) and
I did fold it in half and sew the side,
put in my cut piece of vatting (or is it batting)
sewed the ‘ribbon’ on the sides in front and back
sewed metal hooks (the bra looking hooks) on one side (though I may add velcro or another hook to the other side)
now just to be sure that the stuffing in it doesn’t move around if I ever have to wash them… I was going to sew a line in the middle.
You can also make them without sewing as well…
I’m posting this early as I’m sure it takes a while to plan and prepare. Here’s an idea for a Mothers’ day gift or a shower gift for a mom to be (especially if she will make her own baby food).
You can make it for one recipe throughout the book, or make each page a recipe. Either way this would make a great gift full of love for your mom of her, Yours or everyone in the family’s favorite recipe(s).
Even better, is your daughter getting married? Why not make this for her with the family recipes (especially ones passed down) This makes a lovely gift full of love, for anyone. I love the way they include the ingredients with little mini versions of what you need.
