Recycled Denim Quilt

Image result for recycled denim quilts

If you have a big family or just a bunch of old jeans, Instead of donating them or selling them.. WHy not make your own quilt. Honestly I  seem to sleep better under my own patchwork no matter what time of year it is! Not sure if it makes me feel safe or if it just makes me feel proud to have made such a thing!

I do like the picture in the link  below, with the different  color Plaid in it but seeing that made me ask why is the title Denim quilt?

There’s the denim side and the plaid back side which is a cool idea. Classic Casual and 90s Grunge still rocking!

My patchwork as of July 2017

I wanted to do something like this but I’ve already got my Patchwork I keep adding on to, as well as a Halloween one I am working on that I certainly Do not plan to be as big. Maybe just enough for a throw.

But I am trying to collect some jeans of different blue hues for a variety of other project idea I have stashed away, especially pockets. It sucks you only get 2 back Pockets

(This is an older picture of it… I’ve added  another row around it, (at least 1 more).

I would suggest if you want have enough to use by the fall, to start working on one now.

You can also do this with favorite t-shirts or Band, sports teams shirts etc. Heck why not make black out curtains (or one, for that one window that just puts a glare on the tv or just catches your eye in whichever room.

<– THis one I’ve made all by hand I did try my machine a bit in the beginning but I didn’t like the quality of the stitches.

(SPECIAL POST) Masks for caregivers

If like me you were wondering if there was a way to help our health care workers somehow and show them how much we care; Misha Collins from the show Supernatural, posted a video explaining how he’s been asking friends and such that are Health Care professionals HOW we can all help.

Normally I do all my sewing by hand NO machine, and yes that includes my Patchwork, to which I have to update my picture as I have added a bit more to it) But I’m guessing I may try to make the masks with my sewing machine (I just have no patience for it, it takes me longer to set that up and get going than it does to do so by hand.) These may be just the right size that I can try sewing with the machine. Now the only question is, do I have any 100% cotton fabric, as most of it my aunt gave me, and anything else I purchased in the past, well I don’t look at what kind of material, I just buy for what the fabric’s pattern is.

My patchwork as of July 2017

The following link is how to but I’m guessing they have been getting too much traffic. https://www.gish.com/cover-our-caregivers/ If for some reason you are not able to get through to the link above Keep trying. (as of writing this, I’m getting a 502 Bad Gateway, but its not just me.) If there is a problem the links below can get you started. However I did not see How to make the face shields on the others sites, as well as the form to note how many you made and where you donate etc.

As for their amount of masks, lets not just stop at 1,000 (Honestly somehow I feel its supposed to be larger. Maybe the number is for EACH hospital.

SUPPLIES = 2 yards of 44″ inch wide Heavy Tightly woven cotton material. Cotton Duck cloth is best. and 4 -18″ inch ties This amount can make 15-18 Adult masks.

I ask that you try to make an equal amount of Men’s and Women’s masks, or find out what is currently needed

The one above has a power point instruction slideshow (10 frames), it also has a particular site noted where to get the FREE Pattern for the Men’s and women’s masks. (You are looking for the Pocket mask with seam Allowance pattern)

All Fabrics must be purchased as 100% cotton that has been pre-washed and pre-shrunk

The images in this will help you with the ‘filter’ material http://www.95mask.com/news/disposable-surgical-face-mask-material-details.html

The Czur Shine ultra portable scanner

No matter what your craft be it sewing, kneedle work (yarns), drawing painting and even scrapbooking, plus there’s more….

you can use a scanner in some form for your craft. Be it to just scan patterns, copy a specific part, or to get a better image (and lighting) of

Your photo, drawing, painting or the jewelry you made to upload to your website shop or blog.

Its a bit more money, but if you are someone  in school that needs to use a reference book (in other words, you can’t remove it from the library) but you can scan the book safely and take home a digital version. Same for any story you write a(or illustrations) scan them and make your digital book.

back them now https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/shine-ultra-next-gen-portable-powerful-scanner#/

as I think the prices might be higher through Amazon!

Kids backpack

I made this for charity to donate for a young student in need.

Its a bit tight and smaller than I meant but it would be good for maybe a kindergarten student or just a day pack for camp. There are a few changes I need to make to it, Like I should have made a narrow strip at the bottom to make room for a couple of books. Also I have no idea why  I only have one strap on it. I would add a second one as well as a handle at the top.

Sewing Projects #5 – Drawstring bags

I found this fabric in Walmart as a ‘fat quarter’ and thought: “Hey I DSCN6219could make a bag for Max (the boy across the street from me) He was a big Batman fan for years, now he’s ‘Graduated’ to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (wonder if his mama will let him watch the new movie… man they sound more stupid as thugs than they do with the surfer voices.

This project can be done by sewing or the no-sew way (you just need the heat-bond to do it.)

I did the more simple drawstring with one string so you just have to knot it at one end.

Patchwork

My patchwork as of July 2017

I’ve been working on my patchwork sheet or utility blanket for years. It seems spring/summer is the time I get in a sewing mood so some years its just too hot to work on and others  I don’t add as much to, or like this year my fabric bin just explodes~!

This was originally made as a patchwork BODY pillowcase. Then I decided to just make it into a blanket. Which was a good idea as it saved my hide this summer during a ‘cold’ spell! It went from 90s to the 70s within a night. So I used that around the house in lieu of a jacket (which I didn’t have one with me! Which means No matter what ALWAYS pack a jacket!)

So I am featuring my patchwork (as of the end of July 2017 – Beginning of September)  this time to show off what I’ve done so far this summer, but because I thought it was a great idea for any of you that want to start sewing! It’s a great way to learn and perfect your sewing and stitches! Even come up with your own tricks.

Hand sewn items hold up better than machine sewn. Think about it.. there may be 2 bobbers but the thread is not doubled like when you hand sew. I have never had a problem or complaint when I’ve sewn a gift for someone nor sold something I made or when I’ve fixed clothing for someone!

Dn’t currently have any fabric and there’s no craft store close to you? Well what about some of those old shirts that do not fit you, or that are almost threadbare? The Novelty shirts, bands, or even your child’s baby clothes.  Include Onsie’s, toddler tops, and just add rows for each year.

You can do 2 even do one general and one themed. I was thinking of doing a separate beach theme one but not sure if I have enough of tops that no longer fit etc to use. You can d a family quilt with something of everyone’s favorites and use it as a throw for the couch.

You can also see the video I did. Apologies for the quality, I filmed it with my kindle so no tripod for stability.

Creative inspiration

One of the blogs I follow asked the question How do we find our creative inspiration when you are stuck
it sort of depends on what I want to do as I have a variety of creative outlets (too many and YES there can be too many.. Mama’s make sure your kids only have 1-2 hobby/interests!)

Wheelchair/Walker Bag

I came across this Betty Boop fabric in a Walmart and my Nana’s Name is Elizabeth but everyone calls her betty and Buys her Betty Boop stuff. When I was little my Nana used to crochet etc a lot but now she’s in her 90s! and the arthritis won’t let her. Being this year we had to put her in a home (she wanted it, after  she fell.) at the time they had her in a wheel chair, then I heard she was using her walker again. So I thought I’d make a small bag she can leave on either to put whatever she wanted in. (Although when I went she leaves her purse on the walker way too obvious for my taste!)

I may use the other one as a lounge chair bag to put a small paperback book in chapstick a couple dollars etc or I may see if I have something else more me to use.(Halloween or something summery like tyedye)
